La Colorada Community Center, Mexico

St. Anthony’s Alliance partnered with Esperanza de Joaquin in La Colorada for 6 years. Esperanza provided funds to build the Community Center building and facilitated a number of sustainable projects including a scholarship program, a library program, a medicine & transport program, a soy kitchen program, and a clean water program.

In August 2009, our trusted friend, Esperanza de Joaquin, handed over its duties to St. Anthony’s Alliance. This hand-off was illustrated in a beautiful ceremony that took place in La Colorada with Esperanza members, St. Anthony’s Alliance members, and the local community present. We hope we can continue to support and grow the Community Center projects as well and thoughtfully as they have in the past.

Since 2010 66 students aged between 13 and 18 have been supported to attend the equivalent of middle and vocational schools in Doloros Hidalgo, Guanajuato. The students volunteer with La Colorada Community Centre as a way of giving back to their community.  We need your help again this summer to ensure that the Scholarship Programme can continue in September 2013.

Mary Quinalty, Co-founder of Esperanza de Joaquin and SAA Consultant of Mexico Projects, led the fundraising effort for the scholarships during the summer of 2011 and is delighted with the results. “I watched SAA’s continued efforts and increased investments in the Lavender Industry, I was happy with its success. I was extremely happy for the people of the rancho, the chief benefactors. My love for the people of La Colorada, of its children that I watched grow from babies to hard-working students and their older siblings, graduate from high school. These were dreams coming true! “
